    MOVING, BEAUTIFULLY DESCRIPTIVE AND INSPIRING

The author Raynor Winn makes you evaluate what is important in your life and what isn't. Her narrative is moving, beautifully descriptive, her intense love of nature and an eye opener to a whole culture I knew very little about - wild camping. It is a love story - a battle to survive against everything life can throw at you. Having to face challenges without help - yet there is no self pity. I will read this book time and again because it has given me hope in a world that offers little compassion. Highly recommended.

  • Most critical review

    Overrated, repetitive

The author continually repeats herself as she whines and groans her way along a coastal walk. Yes, you’re not the only person to have done a long walk. Repeats the same ‘jokes’ about virtual eating and moans about her damp clothes and peeling nose and living on noodles etc etc over nearly 300 pages. So incredibly repetitive. She’s only 50 but sounds like a whingey pensioner with her aches and pains. The rest of the waffle is lists of place names and lists of wildlife, again unnecessary and adds nothing to the plot. Could have cut out a lot of the waffle and written the same story in half the length without losing any of the meaning. Just about managed to yawn my way to the end to find out what… eventually… happened.

  • How love can help.

The most enthralling, sad, gutsy humorous book I have ever read.A true story of how love can make life bearable. Sad that both the author and her wonderful husband have both recently died.

  • A great read, loved it.

This book is set on my local coast line, so I know the area very well. I have walked along the same coastal path. I could not put this book down. There was something about it that just kept me reading it. I really enjoyed reading this book.

  • Inspiring and deeply upsetting

What a fantastic story and insight into how life can change overnight. How two people can overcome great loss to come out on top in the end. I experienced every emotion reading this. Made me come away appreciating what I have and to take care of those people I love.
