About this product

Product Information

The signs of climate change are unmistakable even today, but the real transformations have hardly begun. For a generation, we've been taught that warming was a problem of arctic melting and sea levels rising, but in fact it promises to be all-enveloping, driving dramatic changes at every level of our lives, from everyday matters like the supply of chocolate and coffee (likely to dry up) to public health (tens of millions likely to die from pollution) to climate migration (hundreds of millions fleeing unlivable, overheated homelands). We've been taught that warming would be slow-but, barring very dramatic action, each of these impacts is likely to arrive within the length of a new home mortgage signed this year. What will it be like to live on a planet pummeled in these ways? What will it do to our politics, our economy, our culture and sense of history? What will it mean for our collective appetite for climate action? And what explains the fact we have done so little to stop it? These are not abstract scientific questions but immediate and pressing human dramas, dilemmas and nightmares. In The Uninhabitable Earth, David Wallace-Wells undertakes a new kind of storytelling and a new kind of social science to explore the era of human history on which we have just embarked.

A little disappointed with my purchase as had specifically wanted the smaller barrel model dr1950 which is the model shown on the box on the sellers advert. I have recieved the large barrel model dr2000 instead which is not suitable for mid length hair. I have however chosen to keep it and give it to someone it's more suitable for. Just a little inconvenient as I now need to buy another

  • Unite with the people of the world against fossil fuels or your children are going to suffer more than in your worst nightmare

This is the grimmest scariest book I’ve ever read. Everyone must read it, especially anyone in any form of government in an industrial economy. We are heading for social collapse well before the end of the century. If we continue to burn fossil fuels and clear forests, climate change will destroy everything we value. This book references the science briefly because it’s now incontrovertible, we are causing global warming and climate change by burning fossil fuels. It concentrates on the climate impacts and they are horrific and SOON. The nightmare has begun.

  • If you're only going to read one book this century - read this.

If ever there was a must read book, this is it. The most important work of literature of our time. Compelling, page turning and at the same time frightening, inspiring and grim reading. *****
